The best part of it all was the fun we had before and often during the newscasts. Matt Hartke and Sonny Dyon and I, plus another Army guy... e-5 who made e-6, but can't remember his name...!!  I remember Scott Furgeson pulling me into his office and counseled me once.. Matt and I were ordered to throttle the jabs back.. I guess were having too much fun!  and then the stalker, Alexis... that will live forever!

Biographic Details:   Copied from a press release:

A Chicago native, Marovitz began his career as a producer/writer of audiovisual lessons for the United States Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. In 1992, he represented the Army with the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, where he supervised Army support of film and television productions, including “Clear and Present Danger,” “Renaissance Man,” and “Tom Clancy’s OP Center.” He also served as commander for both the American Forces Radio and Television Service’s American Forces Network Europe and the European Stars & Stripes daily newspaper.

Marovitz received his BS in Communications from the University of Illinois at Urbana and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps. He later earned both his Master of Science Degree and a PhD in instructional design, development and evaluation from Syracuse University. Some of his awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters.

Marovitz comes to the USO by way of the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs where he served as Internal Information Director of Media Operations. There, Marovitz supervised the largest provider of multimedia content to DefenseLINK, the Defense Department’s official web site. Under his leadership, the directorate established strategic alliances with the Military Departments and other content providers. In addition, he managed the Department’s internal news gathering, media integration and information dissemination efforts. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, Mitch also served as Deputy Special Assistant for Entertainment Media where he represented the department with the entertainment industry.

“Mitch Marovitz is an exciting addition to the USO at a time when the demand for entertainment for our armed forces is exploding,” said USO President Edward A. Powell. “His knowledge of the entertainment industry and his long working relationship with the Department of Defense will be critical as we find new ways to let deployed service members know this country remembers them.”

more than 30 years of experience in media management and television and film production

Marovitz is married to the former Cheryl Lou Primmer of DeLand, Illinois, and they have one son, Jeffrey Kyle, age 22.

Quote:

“Our troops--and their families--sacrifice much so that we might be able to live in freedom. I’m so proud to have this opportunity to help bring the finest entertainment our nation has to offer to them, wherever they may be,” Marovitz said.
