Worked for a short time as TV Sportscaster, then as Morning Show News Anchor on Radio. 

Worked as staff announcer working up to a short lived stint as Morning Show DJ. Moved over to the TV side of the operation and worked as Technical Director and Audio/Film Chain operator. Then worked with Woody Holbrook in TV production administration. 

Realizing the career limitations in the production side of broadcasting, he succeeded in getting the opportunity to help the engineering staff and finally working there full time. 

On his second tour, he was in Engineering for the full duration of his tour. Responsible for recommending the Stand-Up board for the AM radio studio, helped install the FM studio and the FM Automation system (later became the engineer responsible for the automation system, affectionately known as "Mother") Also rewired the TV Audio system after the 'new' color Grass Valley video switcher was installed.

Biographic Details:  

After the Army, he went to work with RCA Americom in New Jersey (the company which assisted with the installation of the satellite antenna up on the hill behind SCN, next to the MP dog kennels). Worked with RCA as broadcast engineer for the studio/editing center that had the contract with the movie channel Showtime. Worked his way over to the Satellite Earth Station operations and later promoted to supervisor of the RCA Earth Station in Houston. 

After RCA went to work as City Operations Manager for Argo Communications in Houston, a satellite based long distance company.

Currently working with Alcatel Communications in Plano, Texas in technical support for the software development group of Class 4 Telephone switches and our next generation Voice over IP tandem switch. Currently living in Dallas, TX. Still married to wife Lynn, has two sons, Geoff who was born in Panama at the end of his first tour and Wesley, who was born 5 months after getting out of the Army and the end of his second tour.

After leaving SCN, cross-trained into computer programming, stationed at the Math Lab at Eglin AFB. After a few years, yearned once again for AFRTS and ended up at the Alaskan Forces Radio Network, eventually becoming Net Ops Chief.

Retired from the USAF in '84, and went to work for Home Shopping Network as a Broadcast Engineer.

Worked mostly radio and produced a TV variety show called, "Davis," focusing on events and local talent in the Canal Zone. Worked with a variety of technical operations during his tour which included TV console, audio board, camera, lighting, etc.

Best known for his TV on-air work as the host of Fright Night (taped in bunches -- and the sequences frequently got mixed up!!). A Saturday night horror/monster/SciFi flick. 

Woody had a great dry sense of humor and would often work in-house jokes into his routine (like "Bob's Bizerko Lounge" or other subtle references to SCN'ers, who were usually walking past the set while Woody was taping).

His wife, Dorie (?), a Filipino national, who was not in good health, died when she went home to the Philippines for an extended visit, during Woody's tour. They had a daughter.

Kathy (O'Connor) Holcomb was the ASPCA representative who brought dozens of homeless pets to the SCN afternoon show for adoption.

Her husband Clint died in 1971. Kathy and her son Vince returned to the US shortly afterward. 

Most recent info:  

Kathy died in Oregon in Nov 1984 at the age of 60. Kathy opened her home to many SCN staff and crew while she was in the Canal Zone. She is fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son Vince (Holcomb) O'Connor who is currently living in southern California. Vince recently married to a Canal Zone sweetheart. Vince adopted his mothers maiden name in honor of her memory.
