produced interviews with troops throughout the CZ for broadcast on
hometown radio stations. Transferred to SCN in '73 after his
marriage to Sandy.
Worked in TV film chain,
audio booth, production and anchored evening news. Most of his time
was spent on the air in radio during the midnight to 6 AM shift.

Trivia:

A
personal contributor to SCN lore when he stomped on and flattened a
large scorpion (3-inches long) which fell out onto the floor of the
record library after Howard pulled a record from the stacks.
Saved the evidence to complain to station management but it was
rumored to have disappeared about the time Woody Holbrook was
looking for props for the next imminent taping of the Saturday night
horror/sci-fi/creature flick.

After
separation form the military in '74, Howard
returned to Panama and worked in the Colon Free
Zone.
In
1977 Howard, Sandy and son David moved to
Portland Oregon where he earned a BS degree in
Business Admin & accounting.

Bob Kenward helped Steve get an assignment to the
Pentagon's Secretary of the Air Force Office of Information (now
Office of Public Affairs).
He managed the base newspaper critique program and
wrote for Air Force News Service for two years until that function
moved to Kelly AFB, TX.
Did not move since wife, Maureen was in a training
program leading to a master's in library science and a professional
librarian position at the Library of Congress,
He found a position at Bolling
AFB, DC and was assigned to the "Air Reservist Magazine"
(now Citizen Airman) and worked there for two years before getting
out in May of 1980 when he took the full-time civilian public
affairs job with the Reserve's Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB
Steve joined the Air Force Reserve as a MSgt
(retired from the Reserve after some active duty supporting Desert
Shield/Desert Storm)
He stayed at Andrews AFB 10-1/2 years as the chief
of public affairs, a personnel officer and lastly as chief of
disaster preparedness until he was selected to be editor of
the AF Surgeon General's magazine, Medical Service Digest.
He Had that job for a month when Steve was hired as
deputy chief of the Air Force Issues Team, part of Air Force
Legislative Liaison (prepared the Chief of Staff and Secretary of
the Air Force for congressional hearings, worked their follow-up
questions for the record, published the AF Posture Statement and Air
Force Issues Book). Did that for seven years then when the
directorate reorganized (downsized) he wound up being the deputy in
the Legislative Research Team (edited legislative digests for the
AF, special research projects, legislative histories
At the beginning of 2001, Steve was selected as the
Chief of Legislative Liaison for the Air Force Reserve where he
directs the legislative program for AF Reserve personnel policy,
congressional inquiries and the like

chosen to return as NCOIC of Howard PA shop, later moving up to the
Com. Rel. position South Com Hdqtrs. until his retirement
August of 89.
Gary was the escort with the CNN news team that got
the footage showing Noriega's henchmen switching clothes and
attacking Ford and others. Gary took him from the US
embassy where he had been hiding to Quarry Heights where he was
debriefed and then to Howard where a C-141 was waiting to take him to Andrews. Gary is still waiting for his promised
breakfast at the O'club.
Went to St. Louis , MO for a few years and worked in
the golf business.
Offered a Job in Austin, Tex, with a communications
consultant firm. Got
down sized, went to work for Goldsmith as tech advisor, and with
Dell for a short time, before coming to AT&T. Having fun ever
since.
