Tour of Duty:

1962 - 1963

Designation:

Weather Girl

Duties:

One of the real bright spots in the history of CFN was the addition of a "weather girl" in '62. It is believed that Ann Kalb was the first weather girl for SCN and worked at the station until Spring '63.

Ann was very well-liked and appreciated by all staffers, and was popular with the audience, as well, and did a great job after getting over the usual stage fright.

Trivia:

Ann dated Gunnar Bennett while she was at CFN.

Biographic Details:

Ann was Class of '62 at Balboa HS, and the daughter of a Panamanian Mother and CWO Charles Robert Kalb who ran the Officers Mess at Albrook. She also had twin brothers (who were named Charles and Robert Kalb).

After leaving, Ann became a hostess for Southwest in San Antonio, and then married Dr Wendell C. Schorlemer and has at least two children.

It is believed that one of Ann's children is a son named, Dr Robert E. Schorlemer; also of San Antonio and member of the TX Health care council.

His daughter Rhonda remembers her Dad's Rupert the Robot:

"Rupert the Robot was a fixture of my childhood. Dad kept the suit for many years. When I was little, sometimes he dressed as Rupert to hand out candy on Halloween. After he and my mother divorced in '78, Rupert stood in his living room. Dad converted Rupert's lights and switches to work on household A/C current and so he could make Rupert's lights flash when we kids asked him to. Sometimes Dad would record messages from Rupert in a distorted voice on a hidden tape recorder and play the messages for us when we came to visit."
