Capt Sawyer reported to HQ Southern Command as the new OIC for SCN. 

Trivia:   Capt Sawyer was married to Kristin Hesser of Norman, OK who had remained behind in Lakewood, CA with their daughter who was 2 at the time.

Native to Oklahoma, Newel attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M where he was assistant public relations director and editor of the college newspaper for 2 semesters.

In 1960, he received his bachelor's degree in journalism from OSU and was commissioned a LT in the USAF.

He was protocol and Public information Officer with NORAD and ADC division HQ in GA, OK and NY.

In 1963, he attended the USAF public relations school at Boston University and in 1964, he attended Squadron Officers School at Maxwell AFB, Alabama.

Steve Stalker:

Duties:  

Since he had worked in commercial broadcasting for a few years prior to his stint in the military, he did engineering in the mornings and jocked the Pop Shop (rock) show in the afternoons on SCN. 

While preparing to depart the CZ, He was ably succeeded by Steve Glassman who he describes as "a real hoot on the air." Steve Stalker was also on the Friday afternoon Dance Party TV show, hosted by Lee Bailey, that featured CZ teens.

Steve also did a show with Dave Overton on SCN-TV called Close Up, which was a compilation of the week's news. Steve describes it as a poor mans version of Huntley-Brinkley.

Trivia:   Steve claims he was one of the characters that occupied the third floor during the mid 60's. 

Steve remembers the pies at the little lunch room just up the street... and not to forget the fried rice etc. they called in to the station. 

Biographic Details:   When Steve got out, he went to work for a rock station in St. Joseph, Missouri, then moved to a hard rocker in Kansas City.

Before SCN, Rich had been a free lance writer. His articles were published in several national magazines and was under commission to Crosley Broadcasting Company where he had created a series of original Religious programs.

After leaving SCN, he was headed to his home in Cincinnati for 6 months prior to traveling to Europe for a year or more abroad where he would focus on his writing and perhaps some time for his second love, Painting.
