One of the great SCN news teams Dave Cohen, seen here without the "face" and the late Paul Hogan taking photos over their shoulder was Peter Cuzzo

"Brad," also known as Army specialist Bradley, of the engineering dept. he had his wife "Mona" with him in the zone, and off duty we didn't see much of him...Mona probably did. when something broke, his first shot was to give it a swift kick...that often worked!

"Garcia" one of the Cuna indians that kept our 3rd floor barracks clean, and shined our shoes

Army Ssgt Migual Padilla...he did Spanish news before "Herman." a native of Honduras, he was always talking about going back to "my country" to fight the rebels. When he delivered the news he was Mr. Stoic...he could do the whole show, maybe 12 minutes, without moving anything but his lips...

Sumner1.JPG (19974 bytes)

if you've ever seen anyone try to mix acid and water, you'd know what it was like when Sgm. Sumner came on board. he was a soldier, probably did the manual of arms at the hospital where he was born...

Most of the SCN crew were draftees, hippies,  broadcasters, artists, and generally just a bunch of fun guys. Somehow both sides survived. Sam is shown here, conducting an inspection tour of the "Lilac," -- while on the air. (note the microphone)

Steve Momot at Pedro Miguel locks.  note in the background, the locks are empty.  Kathy's husband Clint Holcomb, a lock master, took us into the locks when they were empty for maintenance

every once in a while SCN got the "j" boat for the day, and those who were off could go fishing in the bay..we did pretty well, and had a dinner that night.  we also made "ceviche."

one of the guys wives got her hands in the hot peppers...they were hot...she had to go to the hospital

hulk.JPG (22694 bytes)

Carl Hogan, air force Sgt., was without a doubt one of the most unique people to ever grace the halls of SCN. he ran TV camera...actually, being a body builder, he was able to do that without the dolly.

The hulk took protein supplements and hung out at the weight room at the Y in Balboa...he's shown here trying to get a different perspective on the movies shown at the Balboa theatre. when he left the zone, the hulk was one of the brave ones who drove...he was also crazy enough to try the trip in the "peace/flower mobile...a '53 mercury with the back window and trunk cut out, and huge flowers and peach symbols painted all over it. they told him not to bring it on base. Somewhere up the line, either in Honduras or Salvador his vehicle expired...it was terminal. he had all sorts of trouble moving on... on that trip, if you entered a country by car, they stamped that in your passport, and you had to leave with the same car, same tires, same radio, etc. if you didn't...they hit you with duty on the whole package. the hulk finally made it back home...to southern Calif.
